WOW SO MUCH ANIME, ONLY DOING ANIME. FFS SO MUCH ANIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
And heeeeeeeere we go!
_________________________________________________

1) Innocent Venus
Status: Completed
Current Dogy Score: Aight (5/10)
What is it?: (Mech) anime about a future (real) world that gets destroyed, has poverty, and has the 2 main characters rescue and runaway with a girl whom a bunch of people are trying to repo from them.
What I expected: Seeing as I basically never watch mech animes, I kinda figured it'd have a lot of action, and then everything else was a wild card cause it's not Gundam.
What I got: Politics, some action (not a whole lot), pirates, but more importantly, mad at the second half of the series.
What I liked: When I think back, I liked everybody who WEREN'T the 2 main characters. I also liked the action bits. They weren't horribly amazing, but they weren't bad. Oh, oh, and pirates! (rofl)
What I didn't like: Oh god where to start. Well, lemme rephrase that. 'Cause it's not like the anime is BAD, I just straight didn't like it. The story had a plot twist halfway through that makes you question why the first half happened on TWO different counts. That's the main thing.
Would I recommend it?: Not really, but I wouldn't tell somebody NOT to watch. It literally came off as a "Meh" to me.
__________

2)Lucky Star! OVA
Status: Complete
Current Dogy Score: Beast (7/10)
What is it?: The OVA for Lucky Star, duh. Real talk, it's 'bout 4 more skits rolled into one OVA.
What I expected: I honestly expected to be upset that I wasted time. I didn't care much for Lucky Star as a whole (I only liked 2 early episodes), so I dunno what possessed me to watch the OVA. Probably me recently watching a decent amount of comedy anime.
What I got: Surprised. Some of it was pretty hilarious. My biggest laugh was probably from an inside joke about the first skit (the dog skit), but I legitimately laughed a good number of times.
What I liked: That it was funny. ... ok that's too easy. A good bit of it wasn't "Japanese humor" but "general humor". It's nice to not have to real a paragraph of translator notes to just understand the joke. AND THE END SKIT (I forget what they're called).
What I didn't like: ... nothing. Either I laughed or I didn't, but I didn't hate anything about it.
Would I recommend it?: Yeah. I WANT to say you could probably just watch it knowing nothing about Lucky Star, but I could be wrong. However, if you've so much as WATCHED the series, I'd say give it a shot.
__________

3) Angel Beats
Status: Complete
Current Dogy Score: Beast* (7/10) -asterisk-
What is it?: -non spoiling, generic description- It's about a group of dead kids who fight against a single girl. (I think the actual description tells you a little more)
What I expected: I kinda made a mistake. By looking at the picture, reading the tags, and reading the description, I expected to be blown away by some off the wall gunfire fights.
What I got: A very, very, interesting "slice of life" series. Like, it's not straight slice of life, but there wasn't a WHOLE lot of action in it. ... It's one of those "you gotta see it for yourself" kind of things. I also got one interesting ending. (Not unique, interesting)
What I liked: The bits of action were pretty beast. TK was HILARIOUS. The animation through the series was "oooohhh pretty". Music was good (lots of singles, you'll see why). Some of the random "lol" moments were pretty good, as well.
What I didn't like: The structure of the story. And this kinda goes along with the * in the score. The concept of the story is solid, and overall the story is straight. I liked it. However, I can't go off and say the pacing/structure was amazing. (starts typing and erases 4 times). I don't hate it, but I pretty much watched the same concept go down and Innocent Venus and was highly upset at it. It just so happens that I like what happened here, so I'm not entirely mad at it. But I'm not a fan of how they went about things.
Would I recommend it?: Yeah. Want some good laughs and some action? Watch it. Watch some solid J-Rock singles? Watch it. One of those "I need inspiration from something random" kinda people? Watch it.
THE ASTERISK Like I said in "What I didn't like", I like the series and I scored it how I felt about it when I was done, but a lot of that score came by chance. Yeah, stuff outside of the story boosted it's ratings in my books, but if you just take the pace and structure of "what's happening" from Angel Beats, you could say practically the SAME things happens in Innocent Venus. Just so happens that, along with other things, I liked the story of Angel Beats anyway.
~~~ Eh, Moving On ~~~
__________
4) Nichijou (My Ordinary Life)
Status: Ongoing
Current Dogy Score: Gross! (8/10)
What is it?: A sketch comedy series about the "everyday life" of some people. Sketches include a few groups of high school students (3 different groups, I think?), a "professor" and her animated...doll..thing... and other various, random ones. I could literally get away with saying "It's Azumanga Daioh, but (so far) with more generic humor (as compared to Japanese Humor)
What I expected: All things considered, I expected cutesy, Lucky Star-esque comedy that wouldn't keep me interested for more than 5 minutes.
What I got: Shut the fuck up! I mean, this week, a dear got suplexed. I got laughs, and laughs, and laughs.
What I like: The pace. Everything tends to be fast, furious, and hilarious. Although it's a sketch, a lot of it doesn't come off as "random". Crazy, yeah, but not horribly random. The recurring sketches (rock/paper/scissors and jump rope) are quick lols, too. It's a well done idea, thus far.
What I donn't like: The Professor bits. They ALL tend to be long, drawn out, and miss very often. It's dull in comparison to everything else being fairly crack-speed.
Would I recommend it?: Heck yeah!
__________
5) Hidan No Aria
Status: Ongoing
Current Dogy Score: Straight (6/10)
What is it?: Some kids go to school to be somewhat legal mercenaries... Yeah, that's really watered down, but I really just want to say "Take Shakugan no Shana (season 2, more specifically), give Shana a gun, make Ryuji worth something, and let them go hangout with the Gunslinger Girls"
What I expected: People getting shot.
What I got: Not a whole lot of people getting shot. Not a whole lot of ANYTHING getting shot.
What I like: Up until episode 4, I haven't liked a whole lot. But the action in the last 2 eps were straight. And the fact Aria's guns are Ebony and Ivory, don't care what anybody says, LOL!
What I didn't like: ... pretty much.. everything else. The story COULD get better, but right now it's going in one ear and out the other. It's not funny by any stretch. -continue-
Would I recommend it?: Right now, I'm kinda torn by this. I can see this getting good. I really can. But I'm kinda under the assumption this actually is made by the creator of Shakugan no Shana (too lazy to check), so there's a good chance that this could suffer the same fate. This is one I really have to give more time.
__________
6) Deadman Wonderland
Status: Ongoing
Current Dogy Score: Gross! (8/10)
What is it?: -thinks of a good, spoiler free way to explain it- ... It's about a kid who runs into some hoooooorrible luck and winds up at an amusement park where he's put into a bunch of life-or-death situations; often times for somebody else's entertainment.
What I expected: It's another one of those where I kinda looked at it like "... well this doesn't look horrible (nor ridiculously moe, considering spring 11's lineup), so I'll try it." I was ready for anything.
What I got: Death and destruction. Mostly death. Tore out the frame. No, it's not as gruesome as I make it sound, but people get MEEEEEEEESSED up for no reason.
What I like: The whole feel of "what's going to happen next". I mean, that's usually what happens in a good anime, especially when they deliver, but every episode seems to give you a good bit of everything and leave you interested in other stuff.
What I don't like: ...nothing yet. XD
Would I recommend it?: Yup.
__________
7) Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist)
Status: Ongiong
Current Dogy Score: Gross! (8/10)
What is it?: Story about a guy who, one day, finds out that he's not only a demon but the son of Satan. Annnnnnnd so he's like "na hold that, I'm gunna become an exorcist."
What I expected: I just expected this to be good. It's another one from the Spring 2011 lineup, so it got a chance just for not having 4 serafuku girls on the cover, but I really figured "this looks like it could be good for a number of reasons"
What I got: So far, I see the makes of good things. It's been slow so far, yes, but it's been the "good kind of slow". Seeing as there's no number of episodes atm, I expect this to be one of the "long haul" series (HOPEFULLY NO JUMP, DBZ LONG BS).
What I like: So far, that it's spring 2011 and not moe. Ok jokes aside, I do like the action. It's not the best thing I've seen or anything, but it looks like it might add up to some interesting scenarios.
What I don't like: I'm holding myself on this one. There are a few things I COULD say, but I know it's too early for me to put anything on blast with this one.
Would I recommend it?: Right now, I'd say yeah with no problem. I know I should've given this a few more weeks before I put a shotgun up on it, but I'm pretty certain it's gunna be straight. Even if it winds up pulling a Soul Eater (rolls eyes), leading up to it will probably be aight.
__________
8) Aso No Yoichi
Status: Complete
Current Dogy Score: Beast! (7/10)
What is it?: Harem anime about a samurai who leaves his mountain dojo in the mountains to train/live in a partner dojo in the city.
What I expected: Honestly, I expected to shoot myself in the face for ever deciding to watch an ecchi/harem anime.
What I got: Surprised that it turned out to be pretty straight. It's real hit or miss, and somehow it hit for me. The ecchi turned out to not be a huge deal, and the harem just wound up being fairly lolsy.
What I liked: The characters. And honestly, I dunno what. They were all pretty generic. Hell, the whole anime was (from what I know), generic for the genre, but it just worked.
What I didn't like: How oblivious people were throughout the series. Like, yes, I understand it's an anime, and yes I understand that it's a mechanic to build some comedy around, but dear god my face hit the desk so many times off of some BS nonsense that went down.
Would I recommend it?: If and only if you're just looking to pass time, and you don't go in with super high hopes. Actually, I think I WOULDN'T recommend it to some harem monster (if they exist). I don't know really know much about the genre, but I get the feeling this would still wind up as a throwaway to a big fan of harems. For the rest of us, though, it's straight.
__________
9) Amatsuki
Status: Complete
Current Dogy Score: Meh (4/10)
What is it?: Ok, lemme give you a REAL description so you don't get pissed like I did. It's about a kid living in alternate Edo period who tries to bridge the gap between humans and demons.
What I expected: As many times as this damned thing came up on the random block, and as many likes as it got, I expected to get either a good story or good action. Honestly didn't expect both, but atleast one.
What I got: HIGHLY UPSET. The description is the most misleading thing in the world, there's a whole lot of "nothing happening", and then, guess what? IT'S JUST AN ADAPTATION OF AN ONGOING SERIES. So ya know how it ends?....
What I liked: When I think about it, I can't say I liked anything about it. Easier for me to talk about what I DIDN'T like....
What I didn't like: ... which is everything. I could talk about the story, I could talk about the action, I could talk about the characters (OH I COULD TALK ABOUT THE CHARACTERS, ESPECIALLY THE MAIN CHARACTER), but lemme throw this out there. The description talks about a kid being stuck in a VR Edo and trying to find his way home. That problem basically gets solved in episode 2.
Would I recommend it?: No. No no no no no no no. I wouldn't recommend it to anything. Yes, I see it's a shoujo and I have a set of balls, but I wouldn't recommend it to a female either. I assume the manga has some merit to it, but the anime? No.
__________
10) Black Rock Shooter
Status: Complete
Current Dogy Score: Beast (7/10)
What is it?: ok this is going to blow your mind~~ It's about a high school girl meets another girl, they become friends, and they drift apart. Slice of life.
... no, I'm not kidding, that's what it's about (keep reading)
What I expected: If you haven't seen it nor heard about it, you probably expect the same thing I expected, two see those 2 chicks go to town on stuff....
What I got: ... they do. And it's directly related to the plot of the story. The story is still about two high school girls in a totally normal and believable high school setting
What I liked: For one, the music (fyi, that's THE reason why the OVA was made. Promotion for some band). The action sequences were well done, to the point of where they probably could just release the whole fight as a stand alone entity and it'd do well. The slice of life bits were also done well, and probably could stand on it's own two feet. But the best part? Is seeing them tie into each other.
What I didn't like: ... "I am... Black Rock Shooter." ~~~~ Watch it, you'll see what I mean. *points down*
Would I recommend it?: Yes. To anybody. The only way you could NOT like it is if you hate action AND slice of life. That's a veeeeery small group of people. If you like one but HATE the other, you'll probably still find the other done well enough for you to stomach (I know I did). If nothing else, it's worth a listen for the music. And come on, it's only like, 45 minutes or so.
__________
11) Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko
Status: Ongoing
Current Dogy Score: Beast (7/10)
What is it?: (yet another "lets try not to spoil it" description) It's about a guy who moves in with his aunt and his cousin who thinks she's an alien.
What I expected: Some really interesting twist. The description just sounded off the wall, so I figured I'd give it a chance.
What I got: Myself putting my hopes up because I hear "N.E.E.T." being thrown around (looks at NHK).
What I like: Makoto's aunt (can't think of her name off the top of my head) is a rape artist, and it's frickin hilarious!!..... >.> beyond that, I do like how everything is building up about Erio (alien girl). Obvious questions to be answered, but as you see it coming together, it's interesting to see her reactions to stuff. Oh, and the chick who voice acted Kyuubei (from Madoka) is now voice acting a spaz of a high school girl.
What I don't like: Looking back at the description, I don't like how it was originally listed as psychological, but now it's not. There's a bigger thing, but I can't say as it ruins a good bit of the story as of now.
Would I recommend it?: ...-dances around in chair thinking a bit- I wooooooooould, but it'd be to a specific group of people. Has to be real anime-going kind of people. I wouldn't just say "watch this" as of now.
