Yo I wasn't ready for Shinsekai Yori. I was not ready at all. I was not ready for any concept they threw on the table, I wasn't ready for where the series went, I just was not ready. And that's a good thing.

Even though I don't watch series like this, I think I can safely say this is a fairly fresh series. I think I've heard of this idea being thrown around, a perfect world going wrong, but the hows and whys are were things that I never imagined. It's not to say they're completely farfetched and illogical, actually they make perfect sense. And that's what makes everything amazing.

Beyond the plot, graphics and soundtrack give off the feel of a memorable series. No, they're not over-the-top or breath-taking.... they're actually the complete opposite. However, the style of them parallels shows anime (animes?) that have won awards. When I watched the first episode (which admittedly almost made me stop watching the show on the spot), the first thing that came to my mind was ".... hey, this looks like Spirited Away." I might have actually said Kiki's Delivery Service, I don't know, but I do  know both of those are award winning movies. (Even though I admittedly haven't watched neither one).

"Wait, you're talking highly of this series, but you almost dropped it?"
Yes.

The pacing of this series is so slow. Especially the beginning, where they have to set up points that explained at the end of the series, but it feels like everything takes forever. It doesn't help that nothing starts making any sense 'till a few episodes in. If you add both of those together, it makes the opening of the series seem like it'll take an eternity. And it's really easy to think "I don't care, it's not going to make sense anyway." I honestly thought the series was going to wind up being 50+ episodes and didn't want to watch after the first episode, and then... one of the ones shortly after (I forget the exact number.)

But the pace and planning are the selling points of the series, in my opinion. They do so well to give you plot points that might get closed in the next few minutes, or it might not be touched on for 8 or 9 episodes. There'll be plenty of times where you'll be like "... oh yeaaaaaaah I forgot about....... woooooooooooooooooow.", and the can stem from just about anything. The show really does well to toy with your head at times.

That's really all that can be said about the series without spoiling it. If you're looking for a series to mess around with your head some, this is a great choice. The only thing I could really believe anybody would put against this series is the pacing. It might sound like a simple hit-or-miss concept, but it's one where the payoff will be huge if it connects.

........... *stares at review*

....... yeah this one's pretty weak, but again. I kinda feel like I'd have to explain plot to get my point across, and I don't want to do this. This is one of those where not knowing is a huge part of the interesting point.
