Ok, let me come out the gate and say this; I didn't really like Sword Art Online. I was largely uninterested in the plot, constantly thinking of loopholes to pass time instead of just accepting what is being presented, and was pretty "relieved" that it was done and over with. However, when I stopped to think about it unbiasedly, I realized "Ya know... SAO has something for everybody, even if you don't like the main point."

Like I said, I wasn't a huge fan of the story. I know the details behind the first arc (which, if you don't know, is that the creator apparently wrote the first arc in high school. He even knows there's a lot of excessive jumping around), but I just didn't like the "entire point" of it. If other characters were involved (that were introduced later), it would have set better with me. But as is?... No. What really set me off was the entire second arc. The consistency problem was fixed immediately upon entering it, but just the everything that happened in there was pretty aggravating to watch due to my need for "solid, epic" plots to not revolve around obvious misinformation (in story) and extremely random coincidence.

But, again, when I think about it unbiasedly, that's where I can see why some people like the series so much. Note that I said it was aggravating and not boring. I'll admit that I looked forward to every Saturday to watch and see what happened next. Whether I loved it or hated it, whether I wanted to see if I would finally get completely drawn in or if it'd finally flop, I was always interested to see the next episode. It's actually fairly addicting in my opinion.

I will say that everything that isn't straight plot was interesting. The action (yes, I know it's kinda a contradiction) was, by far, my favorite part of the series. No matter what, whenever swords came out, everything was usually pretty kool and nothing else mattered. Even if the plot that went with it was deemed "flat out retarded", it couldn't take away from what was going on on screen. The music fit the series pretty well. It wasn't specially jaw dropping (or even worth going to get the OST for, iirc), but I do think it did pretty well set the tone and mood for the series.

In the end, I have to say SAO was, for all intents and purposes, solid. Even if I spent most of my time griping about it and hatin' on it, I can't pretend that I didn't want to watch every episode. I wasn't a fan of the romance, wasn't a real fan of the adventure, but maybe I'm just not a fan of those. I can accept that they're done well enough that bigger fans (read: real fans) of those might like those aspects better than me. At least the action was solid enough to keep me from completely throwing the series away.
