(Note: Topics covered in this article are
(somewhat) subject to change. It's literally the stuff I know and am
hopefully allowed to share)
So yeah, contrary to ... nobody's believe, the world didn't end with Apex2012. It's going to happen again this year, it's somehow going to be bigger than last year (IT'S LOOKING LIKE IN GOOD WAYS, CALM DOWN), and there's already a lot more promising stuff on the board. Whether I tell you in this post or not, I'm pretty sure I can say most of the major complains about last Apex, if not ALL of them, have already been addressed and adjusted.
So lets talk about some of the stuff that's going down.
First off, I'm slated to be back doing SSBM commentary. Well, as slated as Dogysamich being at a tournament can be (Anyone who knows me knows I don't confirm my attendance until I have a guaranteed way to a tournament, which I do not have yet. Assumption is not an option for me). If I recall correctly, I think the other main melee commentators are going to be D1, Benteezy, and I think Prog. Before some of you even say it, Yes, USA vs the World is happening again. So believe me, if Prog isn't a main commentator for whatever reason, I'll beat about 7 people over the head with a folding chair to get him to do that with me. Crismas will be one of the 7. (YA WANT SOME?? -> Chair -> Gotchya Grab -> Chair Guillotine -> 2A Burst Bait WE IN THERE. Possible at Apex ^_^)
Speaking of commentators, there are two guys who're likely going to be there. I myself have been asked to fill in for FGC commentary as needed, but I don't think I'll be summoned with these guys around. I'll put it like this; if you missed the last Apex, Skisonic was hired to do FG commentary. Both of these people currently have higher (not more, genius, higher) credentials than him. I'm not name dropping since I don't think it's formally be announced, but if you can't put 2+2 together at this point, you're probably a Smash player. :x
But what all would they have to commentate? (Not literally everything on the board), but you can rest assured that AE2012 and UMvC3 are going to be back. I mean, Apex basically made Alukard what he is today, and word on the street is Forward is coming, so it'd be a shame if they didn't have their chance to get randomed out~~ er shine. Seeing as some new Namco fighters have dropped, and Namco's looking to work on a new fighter that's kinda related to Smash, theeeeeeeen hey, why not have a couple of those there? Nothing completely set in stone, but I'm pretty sure people'll get to see the true meaning of wavedashing. Somebody's probably going to get hit with a chair or a bat, I already mentioned that. Oh, and there's a strong possibility that Javi is going to bring some of his friends for their nation's "favorite game" (as assumed by Americans). That game being the "King" of its kind.
I guess people were more concerned about the actual running of the tournament than the people talking about it. Lemme put it like this; that's shouldn't be an issue. There's already been a TO contracted for the FG games, and this guy is an East Coast vet. I'll say I've seen him run majors with my own two eyes and they finished ahead of schedule with no big hitches. I don't have a lot to say because there isn't a whole lot to say beyond "The complaints were heard and it got fixed quick, fast, and in a hurry."
Moving away from some of the huge "issues" of last Apex, Smash64 is going to be lurking, along with Pokemon. (YES THERE WAS POKEMON LAST APEX IF YOU MISSED IT). Maybe a couple of special events for some games, such as the infamous USA vs the World (well that's a given), and a few more.
The kool thing is most, if not all, of the Apex events are going to be streamed. Melee, The other Smash, Smash64, AE, Marvel, and the other fighters yet to be officially announced (I think) will be streamed at some point and time during the 3 days. Guess what else is going to be streamed....
DAT POKEMON. Yeaaaaaaaaaah. (I dunno, it just sounds like it'd be entertaining to see streamed, high-level pokemon play. Even though I can barely tell you the difference between a Charamander and a Chansey)
-stops- Streams. That's covered. Already have 3 streamers are on deck. Jaxel and Bifuteki are confirmed to come back and do work (and host the after tournament Smashfest). They're going to be joined by Chibosempai's Clash Tournaments. Yeah, that series that's pretty mediocre at speedrunning is coming to fill in the third slot to bring as much coverage as possible.
Beyond those guys, there are going to be some more names there, arguably bigger names than those or even any listed so far. First off, Apex2013 is going to have a custom OST created by many artists from OCRemix. Na, you're not trippin', you read that right and it's straight out of left field. OCRemix is currently outting spots to their remixes to create tracks for various events. Another big group that's going to have a presence is a widely known media group. One named after a certain Smash attack.
And with that, I think I'm going to stop and leave myself some room for more posts. I can probably make another post about Smash specifically (since there're always 5 million things to a Smash tournament -rolls eyes-), and a little more about some sponsors floating around. I want to save the next general post when more updates are given and/or confirmed.
Sooooooooooooooooooooo until then.
