Eh, lemme go ahead and get this portion out of the way first; the Tension Pulse 2011 wrap-up.
Tension Pulse was a blast. First (real) TP I went to; I say that because I went to TP 2009 which was a 3 man GGAC fest. There was also TP 2010 where I beat Jwong in grand fnials of the TO program test bracket. ^_^, but yeah, TP2011 was the first TP for me.
Alternate275, Jewdo, and Dexter (and the other present members of CR2, myself -not- included) did a very good job organizing and running the tournament. I was kinda surprised how many people showed up, and where they traveled from (had some people come from out of state, most notably FL... cause I mean, Columbus is literally on the GA/AL border). Jibber-jabber aside, the tourney was well ran, from my perspective. There weren't many hanging gaps of time, and, to my knowledge, all of the tourneys ran fairly smoothly. Heck, I think the biggest problems came from the Arcana Heart 3 tourney cause I was asked to step off and do AE commentary in the middle of it.
But, take a step back, AH3. That, was, jaw dropping to me. I got second. I'm fairly upset of how and why I got second, but at the same time I see hope in what transpired. See, Karapalm was there, so that's an understood "we're all fighting for 2nd place". And it was round robins, meaning we're getting more than our money's worth in playing each other. But... to my surprise, I actually got the better of the first 3 games with Karapalm. Didn't entirely feel clean cause he was having stick problems game 1, but game 2 and 3 were variations of me standing toe-to-toe with him and NOT getting steamrolled by a dumb bitch with a 10 foot sword. ... Ok, it didn't FEEL like that since I blocked for an eternity (I have to learn good places to GC, still), but the moral of the story was that I actually saw a HUGE payoff for the work I put into the game. Through the rest of the games, I dropped ONE f'n game to Reptar's Eko (YO FUCK DISNEY WORLD; SAID IT BEFORE TP2011, I'LL SAY IT 'TIL I DIE) and that one game eventually landed me having to play a tiebreaker match with Karapalm for the win. This time around, I followed status quo and lost ( :( ), but just like the first set, I didn't just lay down and get ran over. In fact, it came down to the last game, last exchange, and I don't feel as if I made a horrible decision and lost on it. ... It was a -gutsy- one (I tried to 4GC -> j.236C (Petra) around dice, which had to be doubles cause the game damn near froze, AND Fiona's 214B or C (I couldn't really tell with all the craziness going on). I thought I timed it right. I'm clearly wrong as I sit here typing with the L on my chest.), but I don't feel as if I got desperate and took a complete "noob out" move. I believe I actually made a good, safe move and just timed it horribly horribly wrong.
But it was fun, and it was hype; as was the rest of the tournament.
That tournament was the first time in a -long- time that I felt like I was "Dogy" at a tourney. Not to say I've not been enjoying tourneys lately, but it was the first time in a while I was constantly up, bouncing around, and being uncontrollably loud and obnoxious without a cause. Those seem to be the fun tourneys.
AE finished with Joel, the ordinary guy playing the ordinary Ryu, getting 1st. DBJoseph (NOT FUNKYP) getting 2nd, and... DaKnut? getting third. UMvC3 saw GGC Seph getting first ... I forget who got second, and somehow Heavyweight got 3rd. Clint won MK9 with Batman pulling into second. Ivysaur won BBCS, the Light got 2nd and... CR2Raiden got third??? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ And then there was some Neo Geo Battle Colliseum, but I cant even remember how to spell Colliseum, so the heck if I remember the results.
I was gunna link to the page, but Alternate275 took his post down... like an idiot. -rolls eyes-

But something kinda came up in and around TP that turned into the main topic of this post. "What --AM-- I Fighting For?".... I ask myself that because, well, I've been doing a lot of passive playing as of late. For everything (but I'm pretty sure the only thing most readers care about atm are the fighters).
Have I been playing them? Of course, but how much effort have I REALLY been putting into getting better? Some, but am I really fixing what I need to? Na, not entirely. But what have I been playing the games for? THAT'S the big problem.
See, I've been playing AE lately. Switched to stick. But how much playing have I really been doing? Sitting in training mode.... kool. It's kinda ironic that JWong just called me out on something I've called people out on for years, being "Training Mode Monsters". I've fallen into that groove. Same thing for UMvC3 (yeah I picked the game up). I've had it since 'bout 12:04am on the 18th. How many people have I played in it? 0. Heck, I can go as far as to say I haven't played a computer.
I have MK9 (I'm going to return that tomorrow since my plans for today have been DESTROYED by my friend's bad luck), and I also have Tekken 6. What am I REALLY playing those for? "So I can commentate them in the off chance somebody asks me. I kinda get tired of that happening and I don't know a damn thing 'bout either game." -Dogysamich. So you can imagine how much real effort I put into those games. (IN MY DEFENSE! I actually do play people in Tekken. Haven't played a soul in MK9 and kinda don't plan on it.. :x)
My point is that I "want to get better", but I know for a fact I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing to get better. I'll go through Hell and high water to help other people (glares at Mr. Annual), but help myself? Eh, I haven't been doing ANYTHING of that lately. Why? ... -shrug- I dunno. Part of it is bitterness on my whole wish of "having my own Dogysamich to teach me", most of it is misguided laziness.
Laziness... yeah, that's the thing that's pretty upsetting about this. Like I've told myself for years, I'm pretty sure I could be amazing at a bunch of stuff, I'm just literally too lazy to do stuff. I indirectly had sponsorships thrown in my face the other day and I thought "Well, I know what I need to do to make these work, and I know there's no other way around it", then I proceeded to turn on UMvC3 for a grand total of 15 minutes, run around in training mode with no aim, and turned the game back off.
Woooooooooorthless.
Eh, I dunno. I guess I just have to find people to beat up on again. It's not even a lack of drive or anything, cause I was highly upset that people's indecisiveness kept me from entering AE at TP2011 (-glares at WR-), but I ask myself "How well would that have really panned out?"
I'd kinda be upset if I beat anybody, in spite of me ALWAYS saying that and somehow top 8'ing every time I play. This time, I haven't been putting in the work I -need- to be doing.
Wait, wait, I see this one. Hold on. [/talking_in_circles]
____
So yeah, that's all that's really been up on the fighting game front. I guess I outta throw an AH3 picture up top since ALTERNATE275 CAN'T GIVE ME A TENSION PULSE LOGO OR ANYTHING.
That's 'bout all I have for this post. Nothing horribly exciting, I know. I gotta do some for speedrunning, anime, and other assorted games.
I might work on that tomorroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
Until then. Deuces.
