State Of the Union: Fighting Game People

Just finished up the big write-up update to the melee community, now for the other gaaaaaaaaaaames.

This one isnt going to be so bad, people aren't going to cry, I'm not going to crush anybody's life dreams, yadayada. This is the easy part.

Aight, so with all the stuff coming out, some people have kinda wondered what all I'm gunna play. As of right now, the real answer is "I dunno, I have to try some stuff." Lotta stuff coming up, some stuff dropping off, fighting games are on a roller coaster right now. Through all this, though, there are 3 things that, right here and right now, are a fact.

1) I'm not dropping SSF4. For what I want, I just don't see the logic in it. I don't hate the game, unlike most people who are bandwagon-ing and the few that legit-ly hate it. I think and can see how I can get better. And, using logic, I'm 99% sure the game is going to last for a while. I mean, people who think that MvC3 is going to "kill SSF4" aren't really stopping to think how big SF really is and how small MvC was to begin with. Not to mention SF JUST got thrown into Arcades while MvC is NOT having an arcade release. Let's just exclude the fact that MvC2 wasn't widely popular outside of America where as SF is really worldwide. I'm not saying it's impossible for SF to have something crazy happen, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

2) Melty Blood? It's not going anywhere either. The game is too interesting to turn away from. Especially now when we're trying to build a scene in GA. I was hooked on Kohaku the first day I fired up MBAC on my PC, and she's interesting enough that I'll keep playing the game even if another tourney pops up in GA ever again. How much I play may change, but I managed to stick with MBAC inspite of NO tourneys being in GA, so I'm feelin' good about this one.

3) Melee isn't going away, but it's not #1. I'm still a believer that it's a horrible idea for me to flat out turn my back on melee. I've invested too much time, and there's still a lot that I COULD do with it to just throw it out. The problem is, the game's so dry and I have to do so much work to get to the right things that I can't justify putting it above other stuff. I just can't. So even though I've played melee less than 10 times in almost half a year, I'm not throwing in the towel. ... I'm just going to take a while to get out of my corner.

So with all that being said, now I have to address the game of stuff coming out, and wooooooah there's a list of interesting stuff.

MvC3: I'm going to give this game an honest try. Nothing to do with bandwagons, I just like how unique every character appears up front. My main problem with this is that I don't have anybody I really WANT to play. That can be a good thing and a bad thing, but i'm reaaaaal iffy about this.

MK9: I'm on the fence about this one, and all signs are pointing to no atm. I want to try it cause it's new, and it's "being geared towards competitive play. The problem is the company. Netherland games, ..... na f all that, MIDWAY, is frickin' known for making busted, arcade games. Nothing wrong with that, but that's what they're known for. Mortal Kombat is a busted arcade series. Anybody who wants to argue otherwise needs to come up with a respectable resume of tournament outings for the game, which you can't. With all that being said, NLG are doing all the WRONG things thus far to really draw the core crowd. So this game? I'm probably gunna borrow it or wait and see if people form around it first.

AH3: I want it, and I'm lolling that Petra is apparently "dumb good", but I had this theory that AH3 was going to catch when it came to America because it had a face behind it (Sabin). Just recently, Sabin started calling the game old. THAT IS TRUE, but if the face leaves, I think all real following for the game will go with it and it'll fall into the category of a "Poverty Game".

behind them, there are a slew of games I want to somewhat be able to function in. Those include, but are not limited to, KoF02UM, T6, GGAC (i feel like I've lost touch with it), SFA2, and SFA3, along with the other games that I somewhat already play.

I was gunna make a kinda big deal about this section, but then I remembered I'm not REALLY huge outside of melee, so it's not like people put a lot of weight into where I go right now.

I wanna fix that, but until then, I don't have to watch people get bent out of shape over where I go and what I do (outside of melee).

I'm gunna go to FRXIV so long as a disaster doesn't happen to me. What I'll enter is still up in the air (SSF4 is a given, so MBAA is 95% slated in. MvC3 is TBD and then I need to actually look at the gamelist). I'm also looking to go to CEO2011. I really enjoyed the Street Fighter side of it last year and I'm interested to see what Jabailey has planned this year.

I am not looking to go to EVO, not unless a free trip just falls into my lap. As of right now, I'm not too thrilled about the ideas of Evo2011 thus far, mainly MK9 already being a MAIN EVENT game. I mean, it's possible that it'll be great, but right now history is saying that was this is a worse idea than Evo Brawl. When EVO2010 ended, the hype of RedRapper's into left my mind, the dust settled and the smoke cleared, I said to myself (and I think on this blog) "Man, that was amazing. A lot of effort went into this and it was awesome. It's going to be REAL FRICKIN' HARD to top this, for a loooooooong time." Well, it seems that they're already dropping the ball with the wishy-washy lineup. (SSF4, "AE IF IT'S OUT" so if it's out the week of, will it go through? FR did that with horriBrawl).

The only other thing I have marked on my calender as of now is Impact Clash all the way in September.

For all intents and purposes, everything is fine on the regular fighting game front. I have some goals set out for myself, trying to get to more tourneys, trying to actually do some commentary for other games, etc etc. But there's nothing major yet. I have to make a bigger name for myself before any of that starts happening.
