*typical dogy blogpost - I didn't proofread it. Still don't think I'm worth proofreading these things. The stats tell me practically nobody looks anyway*
So recently, I was just interviewed by a news group (I don't know if I'm supposed to disclose any info yet). I was interviewed because they were looking to talk to "high-level anime fighter players" ...... yeah I have no earthly idea how I got pulled out of the barrel for that one, but I figured there was no harm in answering the questions.... especially since none of them had anything to do with my actual skill in a game.
Anyway, that interview kinda reminded me about some of the things I think are "wrong" with some fighting games today. Some things mainly being "there's no real reason to play them, and if you want to play them it's ridiculously brutal to start out with."
I mean, *points up at picture* why would anybody honestly play Melty Blood right now? "Because it's the greatest game ever, Dogy." It is a good game, I agree; but that honestly holds little-to-no merit in the world of gaming today. Not a lot of games actually get played, or rather continue to be played, simply because they're good. They need a reason to be played... and Melty doesn't really have many to the common passer-byer. (Pretty sure I made that up, it has the red squiggle. You get my point.)
But even beyond that, if you wanted to play it.... how would you go about it? It's not like fighters now that give you some variation of a tutorial. Hell, you'll be lucky to find the patched version of the game so you can even read it (it's not horrible unpatched). The game's not horribly hard to just jump in and mash, but what if you wanted to learn real stuff? Where do you go for guides? Or match videos? Hell, what if you're the kinda person who can't actually data mine from videos or transcribe notes from random sources? What do you do then? You're pretty much stuck before you even started a game!
Those kinds of things have been in the back of my mind for literally years. Not so much because I live and die for these anime fighters, but because I'm kinda curious if it's possible and how it'd be possible to bring something like this to a close region that the "big boy games" are in. (again, a lot of people probably would be amazed to know I play some. Some people honestly think I'm a diehard Melee player *laughs hysterically* ) .
With that... that kinda brought me back to this dusty blog that I never used. I kinda figured that... I could just note stuff I do or learn in these games. It may not be the best info (it won't be), but it might be worthwhile to somebody in the future when they get started on their trek down the lonely dark road known as "poverty fight gaming."
I'll have to start off with some big, blocky posts about where I (think I) am at with these games now, but eventually I'll just start making short posts about stuff I learn, where I get info, etc etc.
Maybe if I honestly become some "big anime fighter" in the future, this'll be a place to see where people can get ideas on how to go about it. If I stay as bad as I honestly believe I am now, it'll alert somebody with a brain on the pitfalls to not jump into.
-shrug- that's really all there is to it, not a whole lot more. And with that, I'm done with this post!
