Zetsumetsu Kigu Shōjo Amazing Twins .... I almost forgot about this, and I kinda wish I would've.
I don't know what they were thinking when they started planning for this OVA, but I don't think a lot of thought actually went into it.
I never found out what was supposed to be "the big draw" to Amazing Twins. Sure, the director is the same guy who directed, I think, the first two seasons of Sailor Moon (Junichi Sato). And, to my surprise, the lead writer (Mari Okada) worked on many animes that I personally like. But none of that was really driven across when the first episode aired. There was no mention of a new powerhouse studio. Pretty sure nobody said anything about whatever-the-genre-is-where-an-OVA-promotes-a-band's-album (there IS a name for that genre, I forget what it's called, but FLCL and Black Rock Shooter fall into it).
It was kinda just, thrown out there. Literally just thrown out with the rest of the week 1 Winter 2013/2014 anime. People liked the first episode, heck I liked the first episode, because we all assumed that it was an going to be an actual series. It was a good intro, did well to present the conflict, had some interesting action~~ it was a well done opener...
...So how do you expect people to care when you leave them hanging for one week... two weeks... two months... two seasons?
Yeah, I'm not sure WHY they decided to wait ½ a year for the second episode, but they did it. And it was not worth it. The second episode was nothing special. No amazing action, no interesting new story angles, no stellar animations, nothing. Throw in some sub-par pacing, and you have the recipe for one of the most mediocre things you could possibly witness.
There's not much more that needs to be said about it; Amazing Twins is a fairly generic standalone OVA that got spread out over half a year. Because of that, the few things that remotely be memorable are lost in the huge void of time.
