On Sakuras, Sticks, and Swords 1/28 ATL-Revival Review

(too lazy to proofread)

Atlanta Revival was yesterday, and my god there were too many niggas in the Georgia World Congress Center. Aside from us, there was the Battle of the Bands (read: "The Negro Parade"), a Rugby convention or something, a Women's Rights meeting (I guess they were in the kitchen? [/troll] ), and something else. Needless to say, there were a lot of people. Lucky for me, I was smart enough to take some of the chicken my dad cooked before I left and pack some for the day. I wasn't leaving that room if I didn't have to.

Let's see. Getting up there was hilarious. Another ride with Cody "Viper" Dickson. Another episode of ".... really? -siiiiiiiigh-" I've come to the conclusion that a ride with Viper is like an episode one of my new favorite animes, "Kill Me, Baby!"
It's pretty hilarious. It's like, he'll say something redundant, stupid, or something along those lines and I'm like "rrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh". Then I think "Well, he means well. He's not trying to be annoying, but ... raaaaaaaaaaaaah really???" Honestly, as bitter as I probably come off as in every trip, it's always a good time.

But, onto the meat of the post. Of Sakuras, Sticks, and Swords.

Of Sakuras
So, after a random turn of events, I wound up entering AE teams with DBJoseph and Usual Suspect. Their third man (Who Is Alpha?) got called into work, and so they needed a ringer. I originally told DBJ to ask around before he came to me, mainly because I really didn't want to do teams, but because I felt like I'd be more of a burden than a help to that specific team. No, it's not the typical "I think I'm the worst player in the world and I'll do nothing but lose." but the literal character options. Plain and simple, if I'm on the team, either DBJ can't play Sakura or I have to LITERALLY be useless and not play Sakura. Well, worse came to worst and DBTrollseph couldn't find a 3rd (how.. I don't know). So I agreed, and DBJ signed on as Ibuki (WHY THE NIGGA DIDN'T PLAY BISON IS BEYOND SUSPECT, LOLOLOL)

All of that character selection didn't mean anything for a while as Suspect OCV'd the first two teams we played. We then lost to the team of RTD, JTO, and ..... I think it was Da Knut? (I know he had more than 3 letters in his tag~~ yeah it was Da Knut. Sittin around callin shots like a boss.

We didn't play for a LONG time after that. I got crapton of games of AH3 in with Karapalm (more on that later), but it was like... a could of hours before we got to play again. In fact, the next time we played, they didn't even tell me. DBJ sat down and scrubbed out first. I just HAPPEN to be walking by, and like a scene from a bad movie, Suspect eagerly stops me and exclaims "Yo Dogy! You gotta play man, Joseph just lost. I just need you to get one W and we're good." Kinda confused and disoriented (I think I was walking to the bathroom or something? I forget,) I plug in. 3 straight wins. I walked straight at a Gouken, jumped on a Ken, and got kicked in the mouth by some chicken wings. They were good games, not like they were blowouts or anything. Afterwards, I kinda took a deep breath, shook some hands, and went to take a piss. It wasn't till a few hours later that I found out that that team was the P2W team. I would say who specifically, but I seemed to be kept in the dark about that whole match, lol. I think it was Death Star, ?? and either Kato or Tran. I'm not too familiar with them. Typical "Dogy is horrible with names." My bad. :(

Afterwards, we had to play a Team of Frauds. FraudCamp Cardell, DruGlover (FR Druseph) and some Bruce Leeroy stuntdouble (FR ATL_redd). And ya know... we shouldn't have started that slow clap in the beginning. D: In short, DBJoseph FINALLY got a win by going for a super gimmick finish that only worked because Cardell just-so-happens to play Chun. Then we all got felt up by Dru. It was pretty bad.... well, wait. I forget what happened to Joseph. I think he got cheated by the same auto correct nonsense I did. But Suspect? OOHHWWEE Dru uses turbo for hands. LOL.

It was all fun, though. One short of money. But I can't help but think that if I didn't suck some, or if I'da just said screw it and played Guile, we coulda pulled another W somewhere. ... Actually, I'm saying that assuming Joseph woulda did the right thing and picked Sakura.... eh, well. I guess I was better off wearing my seifuku and headband rather than my BDUs and flattop.

Of Sticks
Recently, I stumbled across a HRAP Premium VLX (a lil less recent than the dual modded stick I won from Arturo's donation drive, I'm still awaiting the arrival of that stick). I only got it for $80 bucks. Yes, only $80. It's a monster of a stick. Sturdy, heavy, solid. I think I need to mount a handle on the damn thing, lol.

By having this, I have learned a valuable lesson. One I kind-of known, but I didn't put much consideration into for this situation. Different sticks, especially ones by different companies, are inherently going to be made differently.

Well duh, right? Here's the thing, though. I have a Round1 TE for my 360, and for the longest I used a HRAP2 + Inpin for PS3. I practice AE (and UMvC3 and Tekken) on my 360. GA Tourneys are on PS3. So yeah, it feels a lil' different to play on another stick (I have AH3 on PS3 so it's not foreign). However, I never realized how different a currently made Hori would be from a Mad Catz.... I think. See, here's the thing, for the past few sessions, I know I've gotten some completely jank inputs. dps when I do qcb (yes) on the p1 side, and 28 when I do 22. I'd like to believe it's user error, just because I'm that kind of person, but I think it's more of a "I just do different stuff when I play in different places."

Yeah, playing on the HRAPs is different, but it's just weird for me to do something consistent and get something consistently different. I tried to recreate the stuff that was happening at ATL-R (and at the gathering Friday) on my TE, but couldn't get it to happen. I couldn't even recreate my AH3 problems using the same damn stick. It's just... weird.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ━┻ (that's me flipping one of the sticks) I honestly dunno what to think of it. I'm kinda just ranting at this point. I just wanted to point out something that I never thought of.

There's going to be a difference when you play with different sticks. The end.

Of Swords

And for last, definitely not the least, the part of ATL-R where I sat around cracking on AH3 with Karapalm (and Reox). Most of my time was spent in a corner blocking that stupid bitch --->> , her stupid sword, and some dice. It was hilarious, though. Learned a few things about clash mechanics, Thunder, and Petra in general (DODGE C... AND A!) It felt good to hop back on the Arcana after 'bout a week or 2 of Melty Blood.

Eh, there's not really a whole lot for me to say on this. Well, I could, but most people who read this far down either already know or don't care too much about Arcana. It was comical to hear people constantly walking by like;
-"Holy shit that chick is cheap!" (Taking about Ben's Fiona. Fiona being one of the worst characters in the game)
-"I couldn't play this game, it's too technical." (Upon seeing ABC -> 236C -> 22A+B)
-"She can just fly like that?" (Yes, this is Arcana Heart, where girls fly. I'm just not jumping up there with that j.B -->)

And all the other hilarious comments.

I guess I gotta keep it on hand so I can play Karapalm and Reox more, and to just educate people on some games that aren't SF. (-glare at people not knowing how invalid combos work-)

___

That's it, I guess. Nothing too much. Just some random food for thought. I'm gunna go watch some more anime and probably go slap buttons in some game. Deuces
