"The Quest" Update - AE talk

So, here I am. Another post on "The Quest". Just doin a quick update on how I've been doin.

___

In all seriousness, not a whole lot has changed. I haven't changed, Sakura hasn't changed. So we're still over here doing out thing. The thing is, I've kinda realized that I have huuuuuuuuuuge holes in my game. My problems being -

1) I'm absolutely horrible at blocking. I probably could generalize this as "I suck at defense", because throw defense goes into this as well.

and

2) I have a hard time attacking people who move. I have a sub-problem with having a hard time attacking people who can tech throws, but I think my big problem is attacking people who have a tendency to move.

___

With all that being said, I've got a little info about the 4 new matchups. I've been trying to go back and revamp my match up knowledge across the board, but I think I've got some decent info.

Yun: To me, Sakura feels like one of "the characters that can fight Yun". Like, yes, if you fuck up and let Yun get a knockdown you have to block Yun, and his default attack options trump a decent number of your typical options of retaliation, but the thing about him is that if he pushes you out it's kind of hard for him to hold you down and a slight risk for him to chase you. On the inverse, his defensive options aren't really too stellar (yes he has upkicks, but they're 4 frames at best and he can't FADC them) What's that mean? If you get HIM down, he's got to guess, and him guessing wrong puts him in the position where Sakura shines ~ punishment.

It sucks that Yun is a twin, therefore you have to adjust your combos on him (c.lk -> c.lp -> c.hp -> ex shunpuu is prone to mix as he's got one of the funky reel backs that get people out), but you get alot of op to attack him so long as you dont let him dive kick all over you? Why, alot of the stuff he normally does to bully people is, at most, +1 on block. Is it an advantage, yes, but it's not a HUGE advantage, meaning there are times when you can take a shot with a light of your choice (or cs.HP if he's jacked up in your face, Uyro style). On top of that, a lot of his strong mixup comes from being grounded in your face. If you've got the meter, ex shoo'oh is a viable option.

Without being long winded (I'm saying that for another time), Yun is manageable. Like the paperwork says, you have to be mindful about divekicks, but as long as you both are in each other's face, you can go toe-to-toe with him and make him fear messing up.

Yang: Now this guy, this guy is the problem Twin imo. And his problem doesnt stem from his divekicks by his slashes. I have to do a little research, but that's the thing that COMPLETELY kills me in this matchup. And it's not so much that he has them, but simply because if he ever makes me block, he can push me to the point of where retaliation is a huge risk. (It also doesn't help that my exposure to a competent Yang is Shine. Yes, the Gouken Shine. XD)

Yang can, overall, stay safer than Yun. That's how he was designed, he's more defensive. But the thing that trips Sakura up is that Yang's offense can keep him safer than Yun. While Yang (and Yun) dosn't really have great tools for footsies and poking, he's got the tools that make getting anything accomplished hard on him. He's fast enough to where trying to poke at him turns into a guess (because you don't want him to dive kick over limbs), he's got the footspeed to give Sakura a problem locking him down, and he's got the tools to deter you from mounting any variation of neutral offense.

Evil Ryu This one... hmm. I dunno REALLY know what all to say about this one yet. I mean yeah, it's part Akuma, part Ryu, part 3s Ryu, but all of it combines into stuff that's not a huge problem with Sakura (I think).

Like, it's a more aggressive Ryu with a teleport, a divekick, and a demon. So like, you have to be a little more cautious on your AAs and your wakeup, because he's got some tricks. You've got to be a little more aware of your oki games, because he can get out if you overcommit or blow you up if you're obvious. I mean yeah he's got stuff like Akuma's sweep, but you're already looking for his good buttons anyway.

Evil Ryu kinda makes you wanna use your new buttons more so you can keep the hop kick checked. You also have to keep standing up in mind because of the axekick. You just dont want to be on your back because he DOES have air options.

Oni Akuma: <--- is not Street Fighter. It's weird. Like, he's obviously got all of his crazy stuff ("air dashes", ground crossups), but it's really not THAT bad. The problem, to me, is seeing this stuff in Street Fighter. It's just, weird.

Oni can stand up to Sakura. And by stand up, I mean be a problem. Oni can move, he can zone, he can just do all the things that Sakura hates. Yes, when he gets hit he's probably gunna die, but he's just a hard to pin down. And when you do finally get him to stop moving around, the thing you REALLY have to watch for is his f.mk (I think that's it). It's like, +4 on block (have to do research), but I know it's HARD... HARD to fight against it. You would want to blow it up with stuff like s.HK, but he can check that fairly well with f.HP (the gut punch). Beyond that, he's got an array of move to do stuff to keep Sakura in check (antijump/antiair normals, strong pokes, etc etc).

___

So yeah, I need to do some more research. Just figured I'd give a lil heads up while I'm staring at NCR9.
